Kid Francescoli, the Marseille-based artist and producer behind the viral hit “Moon (and It Went Like)” and other hot tracks, is back with a new album, A Kind of Wave, and a global tour kicking off tonight in London. To mark the release, he shares some of his favorite spots in his hometown in southern France.
What’s your favorite restaurant in Marseille, or one you’d absolutely recommend?
Paule & Kopa on Cours Estienne d’Orves for its authentic Marseille specialities or Chez Michel in Les Catalans for bouillabaisse.
Your favorite spot for a coffee or a quick bite?
Maison M&R in Les Catalans as well. Great sandwiches, salads and desserts, which you can take to the beach just next door. For coffee, Café Debout, Deep or around Place Edmond Rostand near the studio, as well as L’Horloge by the Vieux-Port.
A cultural or artistic venue you’d recommend?
My favorite venue is still Espace Julien. Otherwise, Théâtre de la Criée or Le Chambord, my favorite cinema, ideally followed by dinner at Le Petit Plat just next door.
Your favorite walk in Marseille?
La Corniche, unbeatable.
Where do you go out to listen to music?
Around La Plaine — Baby, Vice Versa and Makeda — or Théâtre de l’Œuvre in Belsunce. Otherwise, around the Vieux-Port and its legendary Trolleybus.
Where can you get a great pizza?
Paule & Kopa again, or Chez Étienne, especially because that’s where you’ll find the real Marseille-style pizza.
A more personal place that represents Marseille for you?
It’s a broad question, but I’d say the sea. The whole stretch of coastline from Les Catalans to Callelongue, including Frioul. From the city itself, the rocks at Petit Nice in Malmousque hold a special place for me because I’ve experienced so many beautiful moments there, even if it has unfortunately become almost impossible to enjoy now.
